3. English language

English is one of the subjects that are compulsory to take at the GCSE level. In fact, it is a subject that I always focus on. I make sure that my students are taking this subject too seriously. The reasons for having more focus on this subject are-

  • It is widely spoken in all over the world.
  • It is a compulsory subject. You will have to resit for it till you get a pass in it.

The English language is the subject that will help to test your writing skills. Thus, you should remember that you need to have good writing skills. This subject will help you to improve your English and is also hugely considered by the employees. If you want to get into a good university, you will have to get good scores in it.

4. Maths

Another subject that I always recommend to my students to focus on is Maths. Just like the English language, maths is again a subject that is compulsory to take up. In fact, it is one of the common reasons why most students study online. The topics you will be studying in this subjects are –

  • Geometry

5. Science

I am sure you must have this subject in your mind. There is no need to explain why this subject is on the list. I agree that the course content is tough, but having this GCSE will help you with your future plans.

There are generally three different types of GCSEs that you can take up – Single Award Science, Double Award Science, and Triple Award Science. In double and triple-award science, you need to study all the subjects – Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The only difference is that you will study the subjects deeply in the triple sciences. But if you know which specific science subject you want, I will suggest you choose a single science. One of my students was good at chemistry and wanted to study it at a higher level. I suggested she take Chemistry single science. It helped her widen their chemistry knowledge.

6. Modern foreign languages

Another important subject that I will always suggest my students take up is modern foreign languages. It is the subject in which you will be learning a new language. At present, there is a lot of demand for people who know a second language. It gives the reason why modern languages are on my list. Here, you will get to study all new concepts and find a lot of online tutors for this subject. Not only this, but it is also one of the best online GCSEs for adults thinking of taking their GCSE qualification again.

7. English literature

In this subject, you will have to study the different content and need to analyse it. You may get a particular topic or a book to read and analyze the content.

  • This subject helps you to increase your analytical skills. It will help to increase the chances of getting selected when you are going for a particular job.
  • It is also one of the best online GCSEs to take because it involves a lot of independent studies. Taking it online will help you to get a lot of free time to study.

8. Geography

Do you know “ Australia is wider than the moon”? Shocking right? There are a lot of geographical facts that you are unaware of. If such geographical facts excite you, you must take Geography as your GCSE subject. With this subject, you will be able to understand more concepts related to earth, flora and fauna, and people living in specific regions.

  • Geography is one such subject that involves experimental concepts from sciences and thus is also considered an easy science subject.
  • You will be studying two different concepts in it – physical and human geography. Both components involve a deep understanding of the content.
  • There are so many interesting facts hidden in this subject that you will not regret taking it up.

9. Information, Computing, and Technology

You may have found this subject in your primary schools, as it was one of the compulsory subjects in it. In this subject, you will be studying different concepts related to different systems, networks, communications, etc. If you are a person who wants to make a career in computing or is a person who is a technology lover, then this is the subject that is for you. It is not a popular subject among students to take. However, if you want to increase your knowledge in the field of computing then you must choose this subject.

10. Citizenship

Citizenship is another least popular but easy subject to take online. It is the subject that will help you to get knowledge about different subjects that are related to society, well-being, etc.

  • As this subject will give you transferable skills, you can take it to get into any field.
  • The course content of this subject is so easy that you can study it on your own.
  • It will also help you to gain knowledge on how should you cast votes and how various functions work in society.

Is online GCSE worth it?

Online GCSEs mean that you can take them online while sitting at your home. It is basically beneficial for those who are homeschooling. Taking up online GCSEs will benefit you in having flexible timings. Online GCSEs also allow you to study when you are travelling or are outside the house. But believe me, if you are not homeschooling, then avoid taking them online. It is because it will add up your cost and you will have to look for tutors to teach you the subject. Also, you will not be able to get the latest resources.

As many of my students are homeschooling, they want to take GCSEs online. I did some research to help them and got to know about the subjects that have gained popularity among the students in the past few years. Science, Maths, English, and History were the subjects that I was sure about. But it was really surprising to see that citizenship and Computing have also joined the list. I hope the subjects I have added will benefit you in the long run.
